Adopt a healthy lifestyle. Eat healthy food. Exercise. Be happy. We all know these things. Our doctors told us these. But how can they be very difficult to do?
I had been in and out of doctor’s clinics, hospitals, radiology and diagnostic centres these past few years. There was a time that I was in medical rooms 3 times a week. This is one of the reasons why I don’t like hospital smells. I thought I was gonna die so my family and I even had to go home to our motherland for 3 consecutive times for me to see my siblings and other family members before I die.
Yes, that was how severe my condition was. Of course, they didn’t know that I was that sick because I always showed them a brave and happy front. They didn’t know I was lying down for weeks before we went home to see them all. Seeing their happy smiles and excitement as they met us was therapeutic for me.
After all the thorough tests and medical procedures, my 4 doctors declared that I am okay. My cardiologist said, “Bad luck, you have bad genes. You cannot do anything with your genes. All you need to do is adopt a healthy lifestyle, be happy and you will live long.” In the meantime, I have to take medicines needed to sustain a longer life.
And that is what I am doing. I am aging gracefully, enjoying life fully and walking humbly with the Lord. I think the best gift for us to give to our family is to be healthier so they can enjoy our presence for a longer period of time. Let us do everything within our power to stay healthy and with God’s grace, we can live to be 80 or more.
Seventy years are given to us!
Some even live to eighty.
But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble;
soon they disappear, and we fly away.Psalm 90:10
So we pray:
Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.Psalm 90:12
Cheers to a happy you, dear family, friends and everyone reading this blog!
